Step Back In Time at the Bumpin Buffalo

The Oldest Bar on Main Street!

Nestled in the heart of downtown Hill City, the Bumpin' Buffalo Bar & Grill is a living piece of Black Hills history. Our doors first opened in 1902, making this one of the oldest locations in the city. When you walk in, you’ll be greeted by our stunning late-1800s Brunswick Back Bar—a centerpiece that has stood the test of time for over a century.

While many locals still fondly remember us as the "Old Hill City Bar," we officially became the Bumpin' Buffalo about 20 years ago. Though our roots are historic, our offerings are modern; we’ve expanded from beer and wine to a full liquor bar. Whether you’re here for the history or the atmosphere, we’re proud to serve up specialty mocktails, signature cocktails, mules, martinis, and more!

I’ve eaten here several times, and this hiking trip, I took my hubby. He loved it so much that we didn’t eat anywhere else. Nothing here disappoints for flavor! Delicious and filling! Our waitress was super nice, and even though they were busy, we felt like our food arrived in a timely manner. We will be back next season! I’m not sure why anyone would complain about the price. I didn’t find it unreasonable at all, especially for being in the Hills.

Want a GOOD Buffalo burger ? Be sure to stop here and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. 1/3 lb Buffalo burger is awesome and if you're into Mountain Oysters, these are some of the best I've had. Highly recommend this place for a good bite to eat.

Walked in for some food and beer, awesome place
Walls are decorated with various trophies including a large bison head over the bar.

Bartender was nice and took care of me quickly. Burger and fries were out fast too.

Lots of seating inside and they have a patio out back. Cool bar, burger was good.

A “must stop” when in Hill City for the Rally! It’s one of my favorites in the area! The 3-story high building that’s rich in history and a beautiful bar back, makes this place one-of-a-kind!

Awesome little joint less than 20 minutes from Mount Rushmore!! Highly recommend.
Ambiance is the best — classic old bar from the 1800’s. Food is great. Prices are good. Beer is great. And the staff and service is off-the-hook excellent!! (Pro-tip: ask for Anna; but they all seem great)
Onion rings: amazing!!
